The Civil Wars - Barton Hollow (Deluxe) (published March 5, 2012 - Sony Music) "Barton Hollow" is the debut album from Joy Williams and John Paul White aka The Civil Wars. They have taken America by storm and has won two Grammys, including the court prestigious title of "Best Folk Album". But a heartbreaking melancholy approach to folk music differs Barton Hollow primarily from other publications of the same caliber, because of the sometimes divine vocal harmonies reminiscent of Johnny Cash and June Carter, and especially the title track "Barton Hollow", presented by its a little more up-tempo approach oscar 2011 winners list that brings out smiles and almost makes you want to square dance - scary but true! Songs like "C'est la Mort" and "To Whom It May Concern", really shows what it is The Civil Wars mastered at an incredibly high level. Sit back, close your eyes and let yourself be carried away by their vocal capabilities. The only drawback of Barton Hollow, the two cover songs "You Are My Sunshine" and "Billie oscar 2011 winners list Jean", and a failed attempt oscar 2011 winners list to create an intimate and authentic musical experience with the track "Marionette". These three numbers appear fortunately not on the standard release, but is only available in the deluxe version. oscar 2011 winners list Rating: 4 out of 6 stars
Dry The River - Shallow Bed (published March 5, 2012 - Sony Music) When the BBC will be placed on the list "Sound of 2012" and GQ puts them on the list of "100 Best Things In The World", then one can with rightly have high expectations for music. Dry The River manages not entirely, to reach these heights with their debut album "Shallow Bed". True, the lead singer Pete Liddle possess a highly distinctive and unique singing voice, but with a tendency to be a bit annoying to listen to length. Songs like "New Ceremony" and "Animal Skin" has been in heavy rotation on my playlist - and had the rest of the album kept the same level, so we had witnessed a classic. A shame that these two numbers are the first two on the album. The annoying tendency is reflected especially in the song "Family" that gets nakkehårende to rise - albeit at a more unpleasant way. There must be no doubt that the Shallow Bed, and especially the inspiration from Leonard Cohen and partly Bruce Springsteen shines a bit anticlockwise, is quite habilt album, and an impressive debut, but a prayer for Pete Liddle could be that the screw slightly down on the charm. Rating: oscar 2011 winners list 3 out of 6 stars
