Rhys started his career with Chwbrân, Haverfordwest and Carmarthen then, but he made his mark playing for Port Talbot, winning the golden boot league's top scorer for the first time in 2006.
His talent was evident enough scoring in joining a team ambitious Llanelli where he managed to continue his scoring record and became the second player ever in league history to reach 200 goals.
