Kulturkoll.se - Culture, Film, Music, Literature, Theatre and more An unexpected friendship - a film that could become a real hit
An unexpected friendship is a comedy that has been seen by 23 million French people and is the country's contribution to the Oscars February 24 next year. It has already passed the Amélie jay hopson as the biggest international hit ever for a French film, but also started a heated debate about class divisions jay hopson and migrants vulnerable situation in the Paris suburbs. And yes - it's a film that touches on many levels.
The film is, as the title indicates, on the unexpected friendship between the wealthy jay hopson aristocrat Philippe Pozzo di Borgo (François Cluzet) and smågangstern Driss (Omar Sy) who just got out of prison. Philippe is paralyzed and in a wheelchair after an accident with the glider. They meet when Driss looking for a job as a personal assistant to Philippe. He's not really interested in the job but need to get a signature that he has been on the interview in order not to lose her unemployment benefits.
The film is about their friendship and is based on a true story but the script has been modified to enhance the characters' differences. Philippe is white - Driss is black. Philippe is completely jay hopson paralyzed from the shoulders and down - Driss is muscular and lively. Philippe lives in a castle-like setting - Driss is homeless. It has a theme we've seen in many variations before: The Hours with Rita, Driving Miss Daisy and Pretty Woman to name a few. The dramaturgical grip is nothing wrong but it is full of pitfalls because it places extra demands jay hopson on the dialogue and design bases for the film not to be perceived as trite or cliché. Unfortunately deficiencies An unexpected jay hopson friendship in a few scenes. Mainly when directors Oliver jay hopson Nakache and Eric Toledano cut off or screws story was too far away from reality. It is a shame for this film could have been a real hit with some minor changes to the clipboard. Perhaps it would have sufficed to cut 20 minutes of the worst scenes to perfect the work.
Already at the beginning of the film questioning why Philippe choose to employ Driss - even though he appears bluntly, steals his Fabergé egg and penetrate the queue. There are character traits that are quite incomprehensible and reduces the credibility of the story directly in the envelope. The directors put in place much reliance on humor as a tool to drive the plot forward. It never gets sentimental, but in some scenes, it turns fun into slapstick and farce - and it does not feel good.
What makes an unexpected friendship attraction is mainly actor's performance - and particularly François Cluzet who plays paralyzed. He belongs jay hopson to the French actor small and has also won the César Award (their equivalent of our Guldbagge Award) for Best Actor. His portrayal of Philippe is a mighty accomplishment which he alone voice and facial expression manages to convey even the small emotional shifts. I would not be surprised if he is nominated for an Oscar.
Even Omar Sy, known for his comedic talent and winner of the César Award for precisely jay hopson this role, makes a strong effort. jay hopson He is untrimmed, cheeky and authentic in the role of an empathetic jay hopson bad boy from the ghetto. It is mainly his story we follow, and it is his character that changed the most in the film. Even Anne Le Ny in a supporting role as the older nurse Magalie contribute to the film's feel-esteem, as well as the younger assistant Yvonne (Audrey Fleurot) austere character Driss run rampant on. Together, the ensemble this story to a entertaining movie. It makes you laugh, cry, joy and sorrow - just like a good comedy should.
Cast: François Cluzet (Philippe), Omar Sy (Driss), Anne Le Ny (Yvonne), Audrey Fleurot (Magalie), Clothilde Mollet (Marcelle), Alba Gaïa Bellugi (Elisa), Cyril Mendy (Adama), Christian Ameri ( Albert), Marie-Laure Descoureaux (Chantal) and Gregoire Oestermann (Antoine).
Reality Philippe was an experienced Head of house champagne Pommery. He was a good judge of character - used to hold job interviews. jay hopson He has said that he was looking for an assistant who is not felt sorry for him and that could help to make him feel alive - not someone who drowned him in excessive compassion. He quickly realized that Abdel Sellou (film Driss) was intelligent and had a family situation that made that he had the opportunity to help him around the clock. This insight will unfortunately not at the front of the movie, and it's a shame because they are led to believe that their friendship was a result of crazy decisions and random factors.
In the film we get no sense that Driss was in service for 10 years, but rather that it was about a few months. It was during jay hopson one of their last common foreign travel as they both found their current life partners. And it was only then their relationship as a patient and
