Copenhagen, Oct. 8 (Reuters) -. The Englert Belgian and British Peter Higgs win the Nobel Prize in Physics for having postulated the existence of subatomic particle known as the Higgs boson, announced the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.
In its ruling the institution argued that both receive the award for "his theoretical discovery of a mechanism that contributes to our understanding of the origin of subatomic particles with mass."
The Royal Academy of Sciences said that a team of theoretical physicists postulated the existence of this mechanism in 1964 and "has recently been confirmed by the discovery of the fundamental particles predicted" in experiments at the European Center for Particle Physics (CERN). mtv awards 2011
